Upper Promenade

The Upper Promenade is a walking strip running along the crest of University Hill from the university down to the Passage. Not a monument or a reconstruction of some past era — just a route that opens onto the whole of central Kharkiv from its highest point. Below it a parallel Lower Promenade runs at a lower elevation — the two lines together are how the silhouette of the hill still reads today.

From here you can see how the Hill sits between two rivers — the Lopan to the west, the Kharkiv to the north — and how its slopes once held the buildings catalogued elsewhere on this site. A familiar walk along the sunny side of the Hill, even if you came simply for the air.
